Unlike a standard insurance carrier, Alabama Retail Comp is a non-profit trust, which means the Fund returns all surplus funds (unused premium contributions and investment income) to its participants as credits on renewal contributions through a retrospective rating plan. What does this mean to our members – $7.5 million returned for 2026!
The amount of credit you receive is tied directly to your loss ratio. The lower your losses are as a percentage of your contribution, the higher your retrospective credit at renewal. This acts as an incentive for participants to provide a safe work environment.
