Understanding the Claims Process

Dealing with a workplace injury can be overwhelming. We partner with you and your employer to make the claims process and your recovery as smooth as possible.

The Claims Process at a Glance

Use the guide below to assist in understanding the claims process.

Step 1 – Promptly Report Your Injury to Your Employer

Promptly report the accident/injury to your employer or supervisor as soon as safely possible following the accident/injury. The accident/injury should be reported no later than 24 hours after the incident.

Step 2 – Seek Medical Attention if Needed

Consult with your supervisor or the posted Workers’ Compensation notices at your workplace to determine your company’s approved medical provider.

If your employer will not provide you with an authorized medical provider, please contact us at (800) 239-5423. Your employer, nor workers’ compensation carrier, will be responsible for bills associated with treatment you seek without prior approval or authorization.

Step 3 – Submit a Claim

Your employer will report the injury to our office within 48 hours of you reporting the incident to them. If your employer doesn’t submit the claim within 48 hours and you need assistance, please call our Claims Department at (800) 239-5423.

You can also visit our File a Claim page for more options to report a workplace accident or injury.

Step 4 – Contact with Your Claims Adjuster

Once your claim is received, an adjuster will contact you for additional details about your injury or illness and to explain the workers’ compensation claims process and benefits.

It is critical for you to maintain open communication with your adjuster and share all relevant medical and return-to-work information. Without an open line of communication, your workers’ compensation benefits could be delayed or withheld.

Step 5 – Continue Your Medical Recovery

Your claims adjuster will assist you in obtaining necessary medical treatment and follow-up care. Note: Your regular doctor may only treat you for a work-related injury if you have prior approval from your adjuster.

It is essential to keep any scheduled medical appointments to aid in your recovery and prevent an interruption in your workers’ compensation benefits. If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, notify your adjuster within 24 hours of the appointment.
