Meet Alabama Retail Comp

In 1984, the Alabama Retail Association established the Alabama Retail Association Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurance Fund, now known as Alabama Retail Comp. We provide cost-effective coverage, up-front discounts, interest-free contribution payment plans and expert claims-handling services.

Alabama Retail Association

Formed in 1943, the Alabama Retail Association promotes and protects the interests of retailers in Alabama. Today, the Association represents over 4,500 members ranging from large national chains to local, family-owned businesses. The Association noticed that many Alabama small business owners couldn’t get coverage. That’s when Alabama Retail Comp was started — by the members, for the members — as a way to pool resources.

Understanding GSIF

Group Self Insurance Fund (GSIF) is a collective insurance approach that allows businesses to pool their resources to obtain workers’ compensation coverage. Alabama legally requires businesses with five or more employees to have workers’ compensation insurance. Alabama Retail Comp is a single self-insured entity within the GSIF framework, bringing together small employers to provide stable, low-cost coverage.
